HD-DVD

Yes, we know that HD-DVD lost out to the Blu-ray, but it doesn’t mean that we should all lose out does it? In fact, you can benefit…

The HD-DVD Xbox 360 was over £100 when it came out, now you can get it for £40 from Amazon (and there may be further price reductions in the future). In addition to this, there are hundreds of HD-DVD’s available and guess what, some are going for as little as a fiver! You can build your own HD-DVD library for a fraction of the price and watch your standard DVD’s in better quality.

Available from Amazon.co.uk - £39.99

It’s easy to get started with it, the HD-DVD drive connects to the back of your Xbox 360 and has two extra USB ports. It also comes with a remote controller. To get the best picture possible make sure you change the resolution settings on your Xbox 360 display (ie 720P, 1080i and 1080P if your TV supports these resolutions) and use either a component or HDMI cable instead of the composite cable.

Did you know HD-DVD’s were combo disks? One side gives you the standard version of the movie which you can play on any player, and the other the high-def version which your HD-DVD player would automatically recognize and play. HD-DVD’s are also region-free so you can watch European, US, and Asian HD-DVD movies too (but not standard DVD’s).

There are over 1000 HD-DVD’s available. Take a look below and see which you would want in your collection:
